- [Jon Summers](https://greenerdata.net/gd-authors/jon-summers/): Scientific Leader in Data Centers, Adjunct Professor in Fluid Mechanics at Lulea Technical University in Sweden and a Visiting Professor to the Institute of Thermofluids at the University of Leeds in the UK. During the last 25 years, I have worked on a number of government and industry funded projects requiring the use of computation. Having built and managed compute clusters to support many research projects, I chaired the High Performance Computing User Group for 20 years at the University of Leeds. In the last eight years my research has focused on a range of thermal management and energy flow projects within the Data Centre, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning and industrial sectors. Since early 2013 1 have been involved in liquid cooled IT research projects, focusing both at the data centre and the microprocessor scales, which has been further transformed by the opportunities of integrated digital infrastructure research at RISE. My current research focuses on thermal and energy management of microelectronic systems, which has led to my many invited talks around the globe within the data centre community.

She then transitioned into cyber security at PwC in Australia, working in ethical hacking and social engineering. She also published a best-selling book in 2021 titled ‘The Art of Attack: Attacker Mindset for Security Professionals.’ In late 2021, she moved back to the field of subsea engineering and created Subsea Cloud – a data center infrastructure company that places data centers underwater. Maxie was born in Scotland and is educated in Computer Science and Underwater Robotics. Currently, Maxie’s aim through her startup is to reduce latency, costs and CO2 emissions for hyper-scale spenders and small businesses alike whilst being an extremely agile and innovative infrastructure company. The company build, deploys and maintains subsea data centers and IXPs.

- [Nicole Starosielski, PhD](https://greenerdata.net/gd-authors/nicole-starosielski-phd/): Nicole Starosielski, Professor of Film and Media at the University of California-Berkeley, conducts research on global internet infrastructure, with a focus on the subsea cables that carry almost 100% of transoceanic internet traffic. Starosielski is author or co-editor of over thirty articles and five books on media, infrastructure, and environments, including: The Undersea Network (2015). Starosielski's most recent project, Sustainable Subsea Networks, is working to enhance the sustainability of subsea cable infrastructures. The project has developed a catalog of best practices for sustainability in the subsea cable and a carbon footprint of a subsea cable. Starosielski is also a co-convenor of the SubOptic Association’s Global Citizen Working Group and the developer of the Certificate in Global Digital Infrastructure.
